Readership Survey (IRS) 2007: Widespread drop in readership
across publications |

The latest findings of this year's IRS study
indicate a widespread reduction in the readership of all dailies
and magazines combined. Dainik Jagran managed to retain its number
one position amongst the dailies, while English dailies did not
figure amongst the top ten newspapers. Times of India retains its
number one position amongst the English dailies. Saras Salil leads
amongst the magazines. Economic Times continues to be number one
amongst the business dailies. Business Today overthrows Business
World to take the number one spot amongst the business magazines.
Highlights of the Indian Readership Survey 2007 Round 1 are:
Non-English dailies
-
Dainik Jagran retains its number one position
amongst all publications in the country, with a readership of
17,100,000.

Dainik Bhaskar stands at number 2 position,
with a readership of 12,500,000.
Times of India overtakes Hindustan Times in Delhi
-
Times of India leads amongst the English
Dailies, but still loses out of the list of Top Ten dailies,
with a readership of 6,781,000.
-
Hindustan Times is next with a readership
of 3,331,000.
-
The Hindu, with a readership of 2,209,000,
takes the third position.
Magazines
-
Saras Salil (non- English) leads amongst the magazines with a
readership of 4760,000
-
Vanitha (non- English) is at number two position, with a readership
of 3,067,000.

India Today takes the third spot, with a readership of 2,786,000
-
The Economic Times, with a readership of
774,000 is number one amongst the business dailies.

Business Line, with a readership of 107,000
readers is at number two position.

Business Today, with 5,35,000 readers leads
amongst the business magazines

Business India, with 3,57,000 readers has
shown a 17 per cent drop in readership.

Business World with a total of 2,39,000
readers, has shown a 17 per cent drop in readership.

Meredith Corporation launches 'Better Homes and Garden' in India |

US publisher Meredith Corporation has launched
the Indian edition of 'Better Homes and Gardens' in partnership
with Media Transasia. Media. Priced at Rs 100, the women's monthly
magazine has been brought to India as part of a licensing agreement
by the US based publisher.
According to John Zieser, Vice-President, Corporate Development,
Meredith Corporation, the company is excited to partner with Media
Transasia to develop a market-leading service magazine that would
both inspire the Indian women as well as provide them with ideas.
It is targeted at the 28-40 age group women.
Payal Kohli, Editor-in-Chief, 'Better Homes and Gardens' commenting
about the magazine said that it would provide the Indian Women with
vibrant, practical and inspiring guidance, along with up-to-the-moment
trends in home decorating and gardening, as well as advice on handling
emotions, family, parenting, health and everyday life.

launches its IT magazine 'Channel World' in India

Data Group has launched 'Channel World', a weekly magazine targeted
at the IT channel community that includes system integrators, VARs,
distributors and resellers.
The magazine would be distributed on a free-to-reader subscription
basis to over 12,000 IT qualified channel players in 325 cities
in India.
'Channel World' aims to provide comprehensive coverage of technology,
business and market trends. Apart from that, the magazine would
also be covering people, companies and happenings in the channel
space.
This launch makes India IDG's 35th market where the company publishes
a channel-related publication, after countries such as Australia,
Belgium, China, Germany and France. |

announcing the joint venture, said that the company was delighted
that its first foray into mainline newspapers was in partnership
with one of the world's leading newspaper publishers. |

CMP Technology is a subsidiary of United Business Media of the US,
with a market capitalisation of more than $3 billion, is a global

Rodale Inc. has launched a women's health magazine 'Prevention'
on March 24, in India, through a licensing agreement with India
Today.
Priced at Rs 50, the monthly is targeted at the Indian women, 35-plus
and would be focusing on six areas: hardcore health, fitness, nutrition,
family, beauty and the 'you' section. The magazine will be launched
with an initial print order of 50,000 copies and will be have around
150-170 pages. |

The Tribune launches its Himachal Pradesh edition
The
Tribune, the leading English daily from Chandigarh has launched
its daily edition for Himachal Pradesh (HP) on March 15, making
it the daily's fourth edition after having editions in Chandigarh,
Delhi and Jalandhar.
According
HK Dua, Editor-in Chief, The Tribune, the 20-page newspaper would
have daily three pages exclusively devoted to news on HP, including
national, international and regional news on Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh,
HP and J&K.

Sports Magazine launched on March 14
'All
Sports Magazine', the magazine, aimed at the SEC A and B, sports
crazy crowd, in the age group of 25 to 40, was launched on March
14. It will feature trends and analyses of all sports including
cricket, football, golf, formula one, hockey and basketball. Besides,
the magazine will have sports writers with international fame contributing
their views.

Ujala set to launch in Gorakhpur
Amar Ujala, the Hindi daily is all set to launch its Ghorakpur edition
on April 6. According to Manu Anand, Director, Amar Ujala, "Eastern
UP has had a gap for long and there has been an imminent need for
an unbiased newspaper to fill in that void.
The
daily aims to cover national, international, sports and entertainment
related news. The daily would also focus on local news and events.
