and Times JV plans to launch five magazines |

Worldwide
Media, the joint venture between BBC Worldwide and the Times Group
has plans to launch five magazines by the next financial year. The
JV partners had earlier launched an Indian edition of the automobile
magazine ‘Top Gear’.
According
Ian Watson, international director, BBC Worldwide, they are planning
to launch a range of magazines such as food, interiors, home, women
and celebrities.
He
also added that they are seriously looking towards localising the
content so as to connect with the Indian readers and would appropriately
minimise foreign content to suit the Indian reader's taste.

based 'The Economist', has signed an agreement with the Indian Express
Group by which 'The Indian Express' and 'The Financial Express'
as well their respective website would on a weekly basis carry content
from 'The Economist'.
The Economist would be sharing its news analysis, surveys and reports
on current happenings from the world over as well as general interest
articles specially keeping in mind the Indian readers' need.
The
Indian Express Group's chief executive officer, Shekhar Gupta said
that with The Express Group known for its fair and fierce independent
journalism and 'The Economist', known for its insightful journalism,
it was natural for The Express Group to partner with them.

plans to launch its gadget magazine 'Stuff' in India

Haymarket,
the UK-based publishing company plans to launch 'Stuff' its gadget
magazine in the coming year, in India, through Haymarket Sac Publishing
India Pvt Ltd, the JV company formed with Sorabjee Automotive Communications
(SAC).
According
to Jim James, Publisher, Haymarket Worldwide, the magazine would
have a market in India as the gadgets written about, in the magazine
are both sold and are in demand in India as anywhere else in the
world.
James
further added that Haymarket has plans to launch two other titles
through the existing JV under license from the UK business toward
the end of next year in 2008.

forms partnership with Indian Express

TechTarget,
the IT media company has formed a partnership with The Indian Express
Group to publish its IT magazines and websites in India.
TechTarget,
through its Indian partner would be launching Indian editions of
its quarterlies, 'Storage', 'Information Security' and 'CIO Decision'
during the first half of 2007. The magazines would contain local,
regional and global IT topics.
The partners would also be launching a website in the year 2007
covering a comprehisive range of topics such as original news, features,
industry analysis, market studies, product knowledge specially catering
to the IT professionals' need to update themselves with their IT
knowlege and capabilities essential for the industry.

Time
Inc. open to licensing and JVs in India

Time
Inc. Group, Publisher, Micheal Federle said that the company was
open to licensing agreement or joint ventures in India. He said
this while speaking at the sidelines of the announcement of the
'Fortune Global Forum' event to be held in India in 2007.
Micheal
said that though the company had been holding talks with certain
Indian companies a year back, apprehensions about losing the publication's
brand value held them back from committing to any agreement at that
period of time.
According
to J. S. Malhotra, President, Media Representation International,
who holds the marketing rights for the Fortune Group, the Group
presently sells around 9,000 copies of Fortune magazine in India.

Prabhat
Khabar looks for investors to fund its expansion plan

Prabhat Khabar, the Hindi daily is looking for
investors and would be offloading some its stake in order fund its
expansion plans. According K.K. Goenka, Vice-President, Prabhat
Khabar, the paper intends to generate around Rs 50-60 crore and
is looking at various possible options.
The
company has been holding discussions with a few potential investors
in order to find a financial partner.
The
enterprise valuation of the company is learnt to be around Rs 100
crore to Rs 120 crore. Companies such as Amar Ujala, Times Of India,
Hindustan Times, Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar and as well as some
foreign publishers have expressed their interest in Prabhat Khabar
and some of these companies have already put in their financial
bids.
Some
of Prabhat Khabar's expansion plans include launching more editions
from Jharkhand, relaunch two other editions in the state of Patna
and Deoghar as well as launch radio stations.

National
Readership Survey Council releases revised readership survey
data

The revised National Readership Survey (NRS)
2006 data was released by the National Readership Survey Council
(NRSC) after the media houses voiced their discontent over the discrepency
in the data. The revised data did not show any change in the order
of the top-dailies but the readership gap between the publications
had changed.
After
the release of the revised data, data users were invited to discuss
their views on the NRS 2006.
Sam
Balsara, Chairman, NRSC Technical Committee, said at the meeting
that there would be no further revised data released nor would there
be too many such meetings. He, however mentioned that there would
be a meeting of the council where they would try to incorporate
the suggetions so that they would be able to provide more adequate
data in the coming years. He futher said that the committee would
also ask the Association of Indian Magazines (AIM) for their suggestions
on the changes required for better measurement of magazines.

The
National Readership Studies Council (NRSC) has appointed Kurush
Grant, chief executive of ITC Ltd’s tobacco and FMCG division,

Grant
presently is the advertiser respresentative of the Audit Bureau
of Circulation(ABC) and has been the chairman of ABC as well as
the vice-chairman of the Indian Society of Advertisers.

'DNA Money' launched its stand-alone Mumbai edition on
November 6. The business daily will continue to be a available as
a supplement along with the main paper 'DNA' in the Mumbai. After
Indore, Ahmedabad and now its Mumbai launch, 'DNA Money' is planning
on bringing out its Jaipur edition as well.

Roznama Rashtriya Sahara to bring out its Bangalore edition
Sahara Group plans to launch its Urdu daily, Roznama Rashtriya
Sahara in Bangalore during the first week of December.
Prabhat Dabral, Vice-president, Sahara Samay, said that there is
a substantial Urdu readership base in Bangalore which they would
like to tap.

Times Of India launches its Nagpur edition
The Times of India launched its tenth edition from Nagpur
on November 15. The daily will offer the best of local, national
as well as international news to the discerning minds of a city
with rapid economic growth.

'Loksatta' plans to launch its Bangalore and Hyderabad edition
The Indian Express Group plans to launch its non-english
daily (marathi) 'Loksatta' in the city of Banglore and Hyderabad.
These launches indicate Express Group's ambitious plans to venture
beyond Maharashtra, the daily's stronghold.

Divya Bhaskar launched its Jamnagar edition today making
it Jamnagar's first ever Gujarati morninger.The daily had also launched
its Rajkot edtion a month back .
